Going On To Perfection

Heb 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

HHeb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Heb 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.

We are called to go onto perfection.

Mat_5:48  Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

We look at being perfect and we either assume we are, or we give up as we think that it is too hard to get there.

What is perfection?

Perfection is a lot of small things done right.

Perfection is not instant or we would not be told to go on to perfection.

Paul describes Jesus as being made perfect.

Heb 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Jesus proved His perfection by the way He lived and died.

He overcame Satan after His forty day fast.

He lived a righteous life, even paying taxes.

When He rode into Jerusalem the crowds saw His perfection.

Pilate said “I find no fault in Him.”

Jesus was made perfect by God but also by Himself by the way that He lived.

We do not start out being perfect, in fact we start out as sinners. Through salvation, being born again, we become new creations and have an opportunity to start to live a perfect life. We all make mistakes but because of the mercy and grace of God we are able to repent and carry on growing towards perfection. Day by day as we become more like Jesus we become more perfect.

Our aim should be perfection, we should not be discouraged when we fall, but pick ourselves up and carry on towards the goal.
